Disease Ontology: DOID:5419
OMIM: 181500, 613025
Orphanet: ORPHA3140

Targets

nicotinic acetylcholine receptor α7 subunit
Role:  There is linkage between the α7 gene locus on chromosome 15 and auditory gating deficits common in schizophrenic patients. Polymorphisms in the promoter region of the α7 gene that reduce its transcription appear to be associated with schizophrenia. Brains of schizophrenics have reduced levels of α-bungarotoxin binding sites.
