Comment: C5a is the ligand for the GPCR, C5a receptor (CD88) that is expressed by macrophages, neutrophils and endothelial cells. C5a is a potent inflammatory agent that is a key mediator involved in the pathogenesis of a number of inflammatory diseases involving the complement system (sepsis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, systemic lupus erythemotosis and psoriasis for example).
