|Summary of Clinical Use|
|Thiopential is used both for the induction of anesthesia and for complete anesthesia for periods of short duration. FDA marketing authorisation appears to have been discontinued.|
|Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects|
|Thiopental prolongs the post-synaptic inhibitory effect of GABA in the thalamus by binding with the Cl- ionophore at the GABAA receptor and increases the duration for which it is open.
Due to the complex nature of the GABAA Cl- ionophore, we do not tag a primary target for this drug.
