Summary of Clinical Use Click here for help
A single centre, four-way crossover study was carried out in human subjects to test the efficacy of intranasally administered RWJ-58643 on nasal responses to Timothy grass pollen in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis [2]. Results report a dose-dependent therapeutic effect in reducing allergic inflammation (but note that high doses were ineffective and were associated with eosinophilia).
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
β-tryptase is a multifunctional serine protease released during mast cell degranulation. Tryptase/trypsin inhibitors such as RWJ-58643 have clinical potential for the treatment of allergic inflammatory diseases, characterised by mast cell degranulation.
