General Comments
The non-mevalonate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis is utilized by bacteria, plants and apicomplexan protozoa but is not present in mammals. 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate reductoisomerase (DXR), the second enzyme in the pathway, is of interest as a therapeutic target for antimalarial drug development [1].
