Selenoenzymes are a family of catalytic proteins that contain at least one selenocysteine (Se-Cys) amino acid residue. In humans several selenoenzymes have been identified, including glutathione peroxidases (GPX), thioredoxin reductases (TrxR/TXNRD) and iodothyronine deiodinases (DIO).
