Avibactam is used in fixed-dose formulations with the cephalosporin ceftazidime (Zavicefta®, approved by the EMA in 2016 and Avycaz®, FDA approval in 2015). These drugs are used to treat complicated intra-abdominal infection, kidney infections, pneumonia and urinary tract infection caused by gram-negative bacteria.
