Flavoxate is used to treat bladder symptoms including frequent or urgent urination, increased nocturnal urination, bladder pain, and urinary incontinence. Such symptoms may be caused by an overactive bladder, prostate enlargement, bladder infection or urethral irritation. This drug may also be used prior to catheterisation and cystoscopic procedures.

Flavoxate acts as a parasympatholytic, reducing contractions in the smooth muscle of the bladder and urinary tract, likely through antagonism of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors.
