GtoPdb Ligand ID: 9713

Synonyms: Hp-TGM
Immunopharmacology Ligand
Comment: Hp-TGM is a fully functional mimic of the mammalian pro-tolerogenic cytokine TGF-β that is secreted by the intestinal helminth parasite Heligmosomoides polygyrus [1]. Hp-TGM replicates the receptor interaction, downstream signalling and anti-inflammatory activity (by activating host immunosuppressive regulatory T cells) of TGF-β, despite sharing no structural homology with the host cytokine. The activity profile of this peptide suggests potential for therapeutic application. The cDNA sequence for Hp-TGM is submitted to NCBI with accession MG099712.

Hp-TGM is a TGF-β peptidomimmetic produced by a helminth parasite that exploits an endogenous host immunosuppressive pathway in order to evade immune detection and destruction [1].
