Although furazolidone was originally given marketing approval by the FDA in 1958, all registered formulations have since been discontinued in the US. In some jurisdictions the drug is used as part of a triple or quadruple regimen in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease caused by Helicobacter pylori infection [2,4-5].
