Dofetilide is used to maintain or restore normal cardiac rhythm in patients with cardiac arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation and flutter)
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
By blocking the rapid component of the delayed rectifier outward potassium current (IKr), via HERG channels in the myocardium, dofetilide prolongs the duration of the action potential and refractory period, thereby restoring normal cardiac rythmn.
