Summary of Clinical Use
A contraceptive, also used in the treatment of menstrual disorders and endometriosis, levonorgestrel is the active component of the approved drug norgestrel.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
A synthetic progestin which binds to the progesterone and estrogen receptors, slowing the frequency of release of gonadotrophin releasing hormone from the hypothalamus and reducing the surge of LH before ovulation.
