Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Antagonism of dopamine D2 receptors in the mesolimbic pathway relieves positive symptoms of schizophrenia (such as delusions, disordered thoughts and speech, and hallucinations), while antagonism of 5-HT2A receptors in the frontal cortex may contribute to the drug's ability to ease the negative symptoms of schizophrenia (such as emotional and thought defecits).
