Summary of Clinical Use
Madopar® which contains benserazide hydrochloride and levodopa is indicated for the treatment of Parkinsonism and restless legs syndrome. Madopar® has been in use in the UK since 2002.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Benserazide inhibits peripheral decarboxylation of levodopa to dopamine and results in a build up of dopamine in the brain as dopamine is unable to exit across the blood–brain barrier.
