Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Bivalirudin is a competitive and reversible inhibitor of the serine protease, thrombin. Thrombin inhibition interupts the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin in the coagulation cascade and consequently prevents clot formation.
