Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Desflurane perturbs nerve cell membrane fluidity and alters the activity of many ion channels and receptors required for cell-cell signalling across gap junctions and which underlie the action potential. In this way the drug induces generalised muscle relaxation and insensitivity to pain.
