Summary of Clinical Use
Used to treat hypertension. There is no information regarding approval for clinical use of this drug on the US FDA website. Other national approval agencies may have granted marketing authorisation.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
By inhibiting monoamine oxidase (MAO), this drug increases the levels of serotonin and catecholamine neurotransmitters (epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine) in synaptic storage granules throughout the central and sympathetic nervous systems. This action suppresses sympathetic activity, including heart rate and blood pressure. See the DrugBank link for further details.
