Used as an adjunct or alternative treatment in hyperlipidemias of types IIb and IV in patients who have not responded adequately to other lipid-regulating drugs such as a statin or fibrate, and lifestyle changes (including diet, exercise, and weight reduction). Not approved by the US FDA or the EMA, but is approved by national regulatory agencies.
