Summary of Clinical Use Click here for help
Cyclothiazide is used to treat edema caused by disease (eg congestive heart failure or hepatic cirrhosis) or other drug therapy (eg corticosteroid or estrogen hormone therapy) and may also be used to manage hypertension. Cyclothiazide does not appear to have marketing approval for human use in the US or EU, although individual countries may have approved use of this drug.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Cyclothiazide is a diuretic, inhibiting water reabsorption in the nephron. The molecular mechanism includes cyclothiazide-induced inhibition of the sodium-chloride symporter (SLC12A3) in the distal convoluted tubule. In addition the drug is reported to allosterically regulate glutamate receptors and enhance glutamate responses [1,3-4].
