Summary of Clinical Use
Used to treat hypertension and to improve urination in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
As an antagonist of α1-adrenoceptors, doxazosin treatment causes smooth muscle relaxation in the peripheral vasculature and prostate gland by preventing the normal vasoconstriction response to catecholamines. See the DrugBank link for further details.
