Used to treat major depressive disorder and ADHD, sometimes used to treat narcolepsy.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Tricyclic antidepressants inhibit reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine by their respective transporters, SERT (SLC6A4) and NET (SLC6A2), and in addition anatgonise many neurotransmitter receptors. Inhibition of SERT and NET increases synaptic neurotransmitter concentrations which enhances neurotransmission [1,4].
