Summary of Clinical Use Click here for help
Bazedoxifene is approved in combination with conjugated estrogens for the treatment of postmenopausal symptoms, including prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis and osteopenia. These are the first approved hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products that contain a SERM and an estrogen, but do NOT require inclusion of a progestin. This is an advantage, as progestins in HRT therapies can cause dilaterious and unwanted side effects.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) act on the estrogen receptor, but their agonist or antagonist action depends on the site of action/tissue type.
