Zopiclone is used to treat insomnia. This drug is not approved by the US FDA and does not have pan-European (EMA) marketing authorisation. It appears that individual national approval agencies have granted marketing authorisation.

Zopiclone is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic sedative. Although chemically unrelated to the benzodizepines, this drug has an identical mechanistic action, binding to the benzodiazepine binding site on central GABAA ion channels and allosterically potentiating GABA-ergic neuro-inhibition.
