Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Candesartan selectively blocks binding of angiotensin II to AT1 receptors in many tissues including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal glands. This inhibits AT1-mediated vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, the net effect of which is to decrease blood pressure.
