Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Fampridine blocks voltage-gated potassium channels on nerve fibres. When these channels are prevented from functioning on MS damaged nerves, potassium ions are retained within the nerve cells and this is believed to facilitate propogation of the electrical impulse along the nerves to the muscles. This improved muscle stimulation then makes walking easier.
