The US FDA granted initial approval for an injectable formulation of raxibacumab in 2012. It is indicated, in combination with appropriate antibacterial drugs, for the treatment of inhalational anthrax caused by B. anthracis. Raxibacumab can also be used for prophylaxis of inhalational anthrax when alternative treatments are not available.
In the US, raxibacumab is stored in the Strategic National Stockpile for use in a public health emergency and is not commercially available.
