Polybia-MP1 is reported to interact with membrane lipids [2], including phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine which are aberrantly exposed on the surface of cancer cells. This interacrtionuderlyies the cancer-cell specificity of the peptide. The molecular mechanism of action involves disruption of membrane integrity which results in fatal cell permeability [3].
