General Comments |
Nudix hydrolase 7 (NUDT7) is one of a family of ~24 human genes that encode phosphohydrolase enzymes that share structural and functional properties. Nudix hydrolase activity is required for the removal of toxic nucleotide metabolites from cells, and for regulating the availability of important nucleotide substrates, cofactors (e.g. coenzyme A; CoA), and signalling molecules. The NUDT7 protein contains a CoA-binding motif and a C-terminal peroxisomal targeting signal and is expressed predominantly in the liver [1,3]. Through regulation of CoA, NUDT7 has been linked to metabolic and glucose homoeostasis and peroxisomal function [2]. Dysregulation of the NUDT7-PGAM1 axis has been implicated in pathologic cartilage-degradation in osteoarthritis [5]. |
