General Comments
Coronavirus nsp8 proteins form a hexadecameric complex with nsp7 proteins (8 subunits of each) [1,3]. This complex may participate in viral replication by acting as a primase for de novo initiation of RNA synthesis, and is also able to extend primed RNA templates. Cryo-EM resolution of the SARS-CoV-2 polymerase complex architecture shows that it contains the nsp12 catalytic subunit and nsp7-nsp8 co-factors [2].
