Malaria Pharmacology Comments |
The enzyme adenylyl cyclase (AC) converts ATP to cyclic AMP and pyrophosphate, with the P. falciparum genome encoding two ACs, PfACalpha and PfACbeta (described here). PfACbeta has been shown to have an important role during the asexual blood stage of the Plasmodium lifecycle and to be selectively targeted by small molecule inhibitors [2]. It is a target "under consideration" in the Malaria Drug Accelerator (MalDA) portfolio [1]. |
