Comment: Sulfacetamide is a sulfonamide antibacterial compound that has been in clinical use since the 1940s [3]. It inhibits the bacterial dihydropteroate synthase pathway which generates the folic acid that is essential for bacterial growth.

We have been unable to identify quantitative data for the antibacterial activity of sulfacetamide. The sulfonamide class of antibacterial compounds are primarily bacteriostatic agents and have a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative species of bacteria (reviewed in [4]). |
