It targets the virus' 3CL (main) protease (Mpro), and was discovered by the ASAP (artificial intelligence-driven structure-enabled antiviral platform) Discovery Consortium, that builds on work started through the COVID Moonshot, an open-source project that was initiated by the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi). The chemical structure was disclosed at the 2025 Spring ACS meeting in San Diego [1], but no potency and efficacy data has yet been formally published (May 2025).
