Summary of Clinical Use ![]() |
| Thienamycin was the first carbapenem to be identifed, however its chemical instability precluded it from clinical development. The N-formimidoyl derivative, imipenem, overcomes this limitation and was the first-in-class carbapenem to be approved for clinical use. |
