Species TM AA Chromosomal Location Gene Symbol Gene Name Reference
Human 2 1192 2p16.1 RTN4 reticulon 4 2
Mouse 2 1162 11 A3.3 Rtn4 reticulon 4
Rat 2 1163 14q22 Rtn4 reticulon 4
Gene and Protein Information Comments
Human reticulon 4 has three reported alternatively spliced isoforms, RTN4A, -4B, and -4C (aka NOGO-A, -B and -C). The longest, and canonical sequence is RTN4A with 1192 amino acids. RTN4B lacks an in-frame segment of the coding region compared to RTN4A and is only 373 amino acids long. RTN4C differs from RTN4A in its 5' UTR and 5' coding region, resulting in a shorter protein (199 amino acids) with a distinct N-terminus. Similarly, the mouse gene is also alternatively spliced resulting in several protein isoforms. The longest is Rtn4A which is shown in the table above. Thus far only one rat Rtn4 isoform is reported.
