Synonyms: THBS-1 | TSP-1 | TSP1
Compound class:
Endogenous peptide in human, mouse or rat
Comment: Thrombospondin 1 is glycoprotein that is involved in cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. It is a ligand for cell surface receptors including CD47 [2-3], CD36 [1,4-5] and SIRPα [6]. Thrombospondin 1's receptor interactions are invloved in multiple biological processes, including inflammation, angiogenesis, wound healing, apoptosis, stem cell self-renewal, cardiovascular, metabolic and immune homeostasis, and resolution of inflammation.
Species: Human

Immunopharmacology Comments |
Thrombospondin 1 is involved in inflammatory processes, including resolution of inflammation and immune homeostasis. It negatively regulates dendritic cell activation and cytokine release. Reduced thrombospondin 1 expression has been implicated in the pathological progression of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) [7]. |
