Comment: Aristoteline is an alkaloid found in the traditional herbal remedy made from Aristotelia chilensis (maqui) leaves. Experimental evidence from assays with NaV1.8 suggests that Aristoteline might act as a NaV channel blocker. Blockade of this periperhal ion channel may contribute to the analgesic activity of Aristoteline-containing extracts.

Bioactivity Comments |
Aristoteline has broad activity across a range of ion channels. It is an inhibitor of human α3β4 nAChRs (IC50 0.4 μM), rodent potassium and CaV1.2 channels, and acts as a low potency inhibitor (by whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology) of human NaV 1.7 and 1.8 channels [1]. |
