Isoniazid is indicated as a monotherapy for latent TB and in combination with other antimycobacterial drugs for treatment of active TB. Fixed-dose combinations containing rifampicin + isoniazid (Rifamate®) and rifampicin + isoniazid + pyrazinamide (Rifater®) are used for the treatment of active TB.
Isoniazid has approval from the US FDA with a 'Boxed Warning' to highlight the risk of severe adverse reactions. There is no information regarding current approval for clinical use of this drug on the European Medicines Agency (EMA) website, although individual European agencies have authorised its use.
