Summary of Clinical Use
Gemfibrozil is used to treat adults with high serum triglyceride levels.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Gemfibrozil is a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) agonist. Activation of PPARα causes increased transcription/translation of lipoprotein lipase which in turn leads to increased triglyceride clearance.
