An oral antihyperglycemic agent used to treat non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
An amino acid derivative, that unlike the sulfonylureas is dependent on the presence of functioning β cells and glucose. May act by potentiating the effect of extracellular glucose on ATP-sensitive potassium channels on the β cell surface.
