Summary of Clinical Use

Effective against many types of cancer, including ovarian carcinoma, lung, head and neck, endometrial, esophageal, bladder, breast and cervical cancers. Also, central nervous system or germ cell tumors and osteogenic sarcoma. Carboplatin is also used to prepare patients for stem cell or bone marrow transplant.

Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects

Carboplatin acts in several ways to interfere with DNA/RNA synthesis and replication and cell division, and to cause DNA mutation and damage, all of which lead to cell death/apoptosis.
