GtoPdb Ligand ID: 5069

Synonyms: B cell-activating factor | CD257 antigen | dendritic cell-derived TNF-like molecule
Immunopharmacology Ligand
Comment: The TNFSF13B precursor is also cleaved into a soluble form of the ligand.
Species: Human
Immunopharmacology Comments
BAFF (B cell activating factor) and APRIL (a proliferation-inducing ligand) are two B cell-stimulating molecules critical for maintenance of the B cell pool and humoral immunity. Biological function and evidence of involvement in the pathogenesis of a number of human autoimmune diseases has lead to investigation of the potential of tageting these molecules as novel drug targets [7].
