GtoPdb Ligand ID: 5183

Abbreviated name: FLAP
Synonyms: 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein | arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein
Immunopharmacology Ligand
Comment: FLAP is a scaffolding protein involved in leukotriene (eicosanoid proinflammatory mediator) biosynthesis. It has been investigated as a molecular target for novel anti-inflammatory drugs [3,5], in particular for airway inflammation [4,6].
Species: Human
Immunopharmacology Comments
FLAP acts as a scaffolding protein for the assembly of other enzymes involved in the leukotriene synthetic pathway. Compounds with FLAP inhibitory activity are expected to act as broad-spectrum leukotriene-modifiers, offering a wide range of therapeutic potential in inflammatory conditions [5]. For example GSK-2190915 has completed several Phase 2 clinical trials that evaluated its anti-asthmatic potential.
