Clinical development of E-1077 was terminated as it was discovered that cephalosporins with a quaterary nitrogen, such as E-1077, interfere with carnitine metabolism (via intraction with the host carnitine transporter OCTN2) [1], plus it was unlikely to provide superior efficacy compared to reference compounds,
