Summary of Clinical Use
Used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Kombiglyze XR®, is an extended release, fixed-dose formulation containing saxagliptin and the antidiabetic drug metformin HCl, used to provide more stable glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects
Saxagliptan is an inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase-4. The inhibition of this enzyme increases levels of glucagon like peptide 1 which inhibits glucagon production from pancreatic alpha cells and increases production of insulin from pancreatic beta cells.
