Summary of Clinical Use Click here for help
Antifibrinolytic hemostatic used in severe hemorrhage and to prevent blood loss following tooth extraction and in cases of excessive menstrual bleeding. Phase 3 results using tranexamic acid (TA) to prevent mortality, hysterectomy, and other morbidities in women with post-partum haemorrhage (NCT00872469 [1]) are reported in [3], indicating that intervention with TA should begin as soon as possible and is significantly effective in reducing death due to post-partum haemorrhage.
Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Inhibits activation of plasminogen, reducing conversion of plasminogen to plasmin and thereby reducing the degradation of fibrin clots, fibrinogen and plasma proteins. Also directly inhibits plasmin activity.
