Bambuterol is a long acting β-adrenoceptor agonist used as an anti-asthmatic. It is a prodrug of terbutaline.

Stimulation of β-adrenergic receptors increases intracellular cyclic AMP levels and causes relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and inhibits release of causative agents of allergic reaction, such as histamine, leukotriene and prostaglandin from surrounding cells, especially mast cells.
