Mechanism Of Action and Pharmacodynamic Effects Click here for help
Cyclic-AMP-specific isoenzyme phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) is the predominant PDE found in proinflammatory cells. Inhibition of the PDE4 in these cells effectively elevates the intracellular cAMP levels, which in turn inhibits release of inflammatory mediators. This action dampens the inflammatory response, which is expected to translate to clinical benefit in inflammatory diseases such as asthma and COPD.
