Immunopharmacology Comments
CCL20 acts via the G protein-coupled chemokine receptor CCR6. CCL20 expression is detected in peripheral blood lymphocytes, lymph nodes, liver, appendix, and fetal lung, and is increased by microbial lipopolysaccharide and inflammatory cytokines (e.g. TNF and IFN-γ). IL-10 downregulates CCL20 expression. It is a potent chemoattractant for monocytes, but is much less potent for neutrophil attraction. CCL20 and its receptor CCR6 are up-regulated in tissues of patients with chronic inflammatory conditions (e.g. psoriasis, arthritic conditions and inflammatory bowel disease) [5-7]. CCL20 may also be relevant for autoimmune pathogenesis of the central nervous system [2].
