Comment: Mescaline is the only confirmed hallucinogenic phenethylamine that exists in nature. It is found in cacti including Peyote and Trichocereus (Echinopsis) species. Pharmacologically it acts as an agonist at central 5-HT2A receptors.

Bioactivity Comments
Binding affinity ~2.2 μM for 5-HT receptors in rat fundus [2], and very low potency towards 5-HT2C receptors in NIH 3T3 fibroblasts (mouse) [4].
