The drug's molecular mechanism of action is complex, and may include inhibition of the thiazide-sensitive sodium-chloride cotransporter, SLC12A3, antagonism of the voltage gated potassium channels, KCNQ1 and KCNE1, and increased synthesis of PGE2 (prostaglandin with vasodilatory action).
